Duluth’s Skywalk system is expanding once again. On Friday, a section of Superior Street was closed to bring in the new segment - and it's an installation different from past extensions.
Friday’s installation included a pre-built Skywalk connection that was created to be lifted and installed in one day. Finishing work will take a few more weeks.
The new extension is linking the Tech Village to the recently completed Wieland Block development.
The 100-foot new Skywalk section left Minneapolis on Thursday for the drive north to its new home.
"What we wanted to do was to eliminate the downtime for this project – to minimize the downtime for Superior St. for the local residents," said Derek Bostyancic of Northern Industrial Erectors, Inc.
Builder Rich Noble of A & L Properties echoed Bostyanic’s sentiments, and said the new connection is just another step to help keep downtown visitors connected.
Skywalk users are already eagerly anticipating the opening of the new extension, which is slated for late April of this year.
